TIM/FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Straight answers about what TIM is, who it is for, and how verification, controls and archiving work.

About the product

What is The Tie Instant Messenger?
TIM is a verified professional network and secure messenger built for digital-asset markets. It combines a searchable directory of real people and companies (hedge funds, exchanges, OTC desks, banks and token teams) with real-time messaging, identity verification, and firm-owned, compliance-ready communications. Company profiles are enriched with funding, investor and news data from The Tie.
Who is it for?
Professionals who transact across crypto and traditional finance: BD and IR teams, trading and OTC desks, funds, and the compliance teams at regulated firms. If you need to find the right counterparty, prove who you are, and keep communications on the record, TIM is built for you.
How is this different from Telegram or another chat app?
Consumer messengers are anonymous and can't be archived, which makes them a compliance liability for a regulated firm. TIM gives you verified identities, a crypto-native company directory with real market data, firm-owned conversations, and native compliance archiving. It's messaging your compliance team can approve.
What can I do on TIM today?
Discover and search people and companies; message in real time with reactions, edits, read receipts, typing indicators, voice messages and file and GIF sharing; organise contacts and teams; follow companies and receive their announcements; get your business verified; and archive conversations to your firm's compliance system.

Finding and connecting with people

How do I find the right people and companies?
Use Discover to browse and search every company, fund and person. On Pro you can filter by sector, headcount, location, fund stage and recent raises, see each person's role and location, and open the full funding history on any company.
Can strangers message me directly?
No. A message from someone outside your network arrives as a request, so you decide who gets through. You can block people and companies, and on Pro your company can accept new conversations only from KYB-verified companies.
Can I message a whole team instead of hunting for one person?
Yes. Companies on Pro can expose external-facing teams, such as an OTC desk, so you reach the right desk as a unit rather than guessing which individual to contact.

Verification and trust

What does the Verified badge mean, and how do I get it?
The badge means a business has completed KYB (Know Your Business) verification through Sumsub, a trusted third-party provider. To get verified, go to Company settings, choose Complete verification, and you'll be guided through validating your company details. Once approved, the badge appears on your company, your people, your teams and your conversations. It is part of the Pro plan.
Why does verification matter?
Crypto is full of impersonation and spoofed teams. A KYB badge turns "trust me" into a third-party-proven identity, so every conversation starts with a counterparty you can trust. Doing the KYB takes time and effort; that is the point. It is proof of work that shows a company's standing in the network.
Can I use a personal email address?
No. Everyone signs in with a verified work email at a company domain. That is what makes every profile on TIM a real employee of a real company.

Compliance and data ownership

How does compliance archiving work?
Your firm connects its own Global Relay account from Company settings. Once connected, conversations, edits, deletions, reactions and attachments are archived automatically in the background to the same system your firm already uses for email, supporting your recordkeeping obligations without changing how your team works. Additional archive connectors are available on Enterprise.
What happens to conversations when an employee leaves?
They stay with your firm. Conversations belong to the company, not a personal account. When you offboard someone, an admin deactivates them and reassigns their group chats, with the full history, to another person in a single action. Relationships and records don't walk out of the door, and there are no orphaned group chats.
Is my data secure?
All communications are encrypted in transit, sign-in supports two-factor authentication with a device list you can revoke from, and access is governed by role-based permissions. Firms connect their own compliance archive and retain their own records. Single sign-on (SAML / OIDC) is available on Enterprise.

Plans and getting started

What platforms does TIM run on?
TIM works in the browser, as a native desktop app for macOS, and on iOS and Android.
What does it cost?
The messenger is free for every company on Basic. Pro is $30 per active member per month, or $20 per member per month when billed yearly ($240 per seat per year). Enterprise has custom pricing: talk to sales. See the full comparison.
How do I get my company onboarded?
Sign in at tim.thetie.io with your work email, claim your company, verify your domains and invite your team. Colleagues with a verified-domain address join automatically. Owners can upgrade to Pro from Settings.
