Monthly Fundraising Highlights

Crypto companies raised $2.54 billion across 85 rounds in August, up 19% in capital raised and 13% in deal count against July, however both metrics were still below their respective 6 month moving averages.

Eight M&A deals closed, down sharply from July's total of 19 deals. The month's largest venture round was Ajaib's $270 million Series C, an Indonesian crypto exchange backed by SBI Digital Asset Holdings.

Most Active Investors

The top five investors made a total of 15 investments this month. Their investments spanned multiple sectors, including Artificial Intelligence, Betting & Prediction Markets, Blockchain Services, Business Service Providers, DeFi, DePIN, Decentralized Social, and Infrastructure Providers.

The two frontrunners moved as a pair and their shared bets show where early-stage convictions clustered. Both co-led Dow Protocol's $10.5 million seed, a platform that pays e-commerce merchants instantly for sales they've made but haven't been paid for yet, replacing the usual two-to-four-week wait for marketplace payouts. Both also co-led the round for ORO and backed Fortune Protocol, an AI-powered platform that aggregates liquidity across prediction markets, the same corner of the market the White House summit flagged as a policy track.

Distribution of Fundraises by Sector

Digital Asset Treasury led by capital raised with $1.02 billion between just two rounds. Artificial Intelligence was the most active sector by deal count, with eight deals totaling to $332.46 million capital raised.

Digital Asset Treasury Funding Rounds

Only two DAT rounds closed in August, and they tell very different stories. ZeroStack (formerly Flora Growth Corp.) struck a $1 billion agreement on August 19 under which investors contributed MemeCore ($M) tokens, the native asset of a Layer-1 blockchain built for meme-driven “culture” economies, to its treasury in exchange for shares at $25.19, roughly twelve times its recent trading price. The deal adds a memecoin ecosystem token to a treasury already anchored by 0G, and effectively puts $M exposure on Nasdaq. At the other end, Capital B raised a comparatively modest $24.5 million (€21 million) in cash on August 28 to purchase roughly 270 BTC.

Distribution of Fundraises by Stage

Strategic rounds dominated August for a third straight month in deals completed, $1.17 billion across 16 deals, 46% of everything raised, $1.0 billion of it being ZeroStack. The 21 accelerator rounds at an identical $500,000 ($10.5 million combined) ranked first by number of deals due to the recent announcement of YZi Labs' EASY Residency Season 4 cohort, the Bhutan-based program of the former Binance Labs, whose Builder Fund writes every selected team the same $500,000 cheque, typically $150,000 for 5% equity plus a $350,000 uncapped SAFE.

M&A Activity

Eight M&A deals closed in August. Notably, Stripe's acquisition of OpenRouter on August 19 carried a disclosed price tag of $7.5 billion, dwarfing every funding round this month combined and instantly making it the single largest crypto-adjacent transaction of any kind in August.

eToro's $231 million acquisition of TradeZero was the only other deal with a disclosed value; the remaining six all closed on undisclosed terms.

Stripe's $7.5B purchase of OpenRouter alone is bigger than the entire August funding market ($2.54B) nearly three times over, a reminder that M&A and fundraising are genuinely different games with genuinely different scales.

Introduction to Apefluencer

The Tie's Apefluencer tool is built on a simple observation: some of crypto's most valuable information exists in the ‘follow’ graph of a small set of Twitter/X accounts who know which founders and projects are worth paying attention to before anyone else does.

Apefluencer tracks the follow behavior of a curated network of ~580 high-signal crypto accounts (investors, funds, founders, researchers, and traders) and surfaces the accounts, projects, and narratives drawing their attention before the broader market catches on.

It’s hardly a coincidence when a handful of these accounts start following the same new account within days of each other. It's usually the earliest visible sign of information moving through the ecosystem before it's public: a raise still open, a testnet with no coverage yet, a narrative the crowd hasn't named. Apefluencer turns that follow activity into a real-time signal, ranked by how many indicators have converged on it and how early they got there.

What follows each month is a real sample of what the tool caught: the narratives indicators rotated into, the accounts and projects drawing the most early conviction, and a look back at signals that turned into something.

Themes and Narratives

Every account our indicator network follows is automatically classified into one of a fixed set of narrative themes, and the below chart ranks those themes by ‘follow’ volume this month so you can see which categories the network is converging on and how that's shifted from the prior month.

Apefluencer Themes & Narratives — August 2026

When Apefluencer Called it Early

Flying Tulip: Caught six weeks before the round went public

Andre Cronje's Flying Tulip announced a $200M seed round at a $1B valuation on September 29, 2025, but the private round had quietly opened six weeks earlier, on August 14. Apefluencer caught the account the very next day, when Wyatt Lonergan, a general partner at VanEck Ventures, became its first indicator follow. He stood alone for three weeks until three more indicators followed within a single 24-hour span on September 8, carrying the account across our consensus threshold 21 days before the raise went public, real time to investigate, run diligence, and ask about an allocation before it closed.

Outcome: A 207-day head start from a single early follow

In July 2025, one trader-classified indicator, @duke_rick1, followed an unknown account called Outcome, a Hyperliquid-native prediction market that took no venture capital and instead staked $16M in $HYPE to align with the network. That single follow stood alone for 207 days, nine months before Outcome launched as Hyperliquid's debut HIP-4 platform in May 2026 to tier-one coverage as a Polymarket/Kalshi challenger. A lone early follow like this is a lead, not a buy signal, and most never resolve into anything, but here it gave a seven-month head start on a project with no token, no mainnet, and no public coverage yet, the kind of lead that's hard to source any other way.
